2020 has kicked off to a flying start at the Minc incubator! So far, we have seen a record number of applications to the program and some exceptionally strong startups have already joined us, amongst them Medbeat, Virotea, Your Speech Factory, and Ommej.
I took over the reins as Head of Incubator from Jonas Jönsson in December 2019, and with that a strong incubator program, set on solid foundations by my predecessors and their teams. Minc has been running since 2002 and has continued producing some fantastic startups along the way.
The numbers speak for themselves; in 2019, our alumnis reached an incredible 1 billion SEK in turnover and produced over 750 jobs for the region. The incubator worked with over 25 companies, 6 of which received investments from our own angel-led investment fund Fast Track Capital II. And we are proud to be leading when it comes to diversity, 41% of the companies in the incubator were co-founded by a female, and 35% of our entrepreneurs come from a foreign background.
This year, we are planning to go from strength to strength and continue to build on the solid foundations of the Minc incubator to create a world class program.
We have started by adding some talented individuals to our team!
Dzenis Skopljak joined the incubator in the autumn, and now leads the program management of the incubator, including the community and events planning and organisation of our expert workshops and seminars. She comes with a range of experience from similar roles at FTMO and SUP 46 most recently.
Fabian Hagman joins Minc as a seasoned leader and entrepreneur with a wealth of experience in strategy, leadership and product development amongst other things, and will focus on coaching our incubator companies.
So will Per Ögren, who is the founder of ‘Toughest’, and brings his extensive experience in building and scaling a startup with particular strengths in the sales-, marketing- and event management space.
Karin Lintrup will be heading up our Startup Labs this year when Mikaela Färnqvist goes on maternity leave. Karin brings a wealth of experience in the field of innovation and sustainability, amongst other things, and will continue to focus on building and supporting entrepreneurs to form successful teams in a diverse and empowering way, and launch various initiatives to ensure we offer the best of the startup world to the whole of Malmö.
Each of Minc’s new colleagues deserve a piece of their own space on here, so watch this space for further announcements on their profiles and backgrounds.
This year, the incubator program will expand its offerings to include expanded alumni events, a new focus on helping with tech challenges through our Tech Board, and by continuing to further build our expertise and network in various key areas such as financing, sales, and product development.
I look forward to keeping you posted on the development of the incubator at Minc and how we continue building the program to best support startups in Malmö and the Skåne region.
And if you are an entrepreneur wanting to take your startup to the next level, let’s have a chat.
